All teaching and learning is now planned to meet the new 2014 National Curriculum.
Come & SeeOver the summer term we will be learning more about Pentecost and the Ascension. The children will learn about Holidays and Holidays.
HistoryThis term we will have a focus of 'First Flight'. The children will learn about the Wright brothers and the history of invention. They will explore flight linked to science learning also.

EnglishDuring the summer term the children will learn to use and make dictionaries which will link to our history topic of Aeroplanes and Flight.
The children will also continue to develop their talk 4 writing skills through stories and actions. The children will be expected to write longer pieces of writing for a more sustained amount of time and they will be creating stories with a fantasy setting of 'Space'. PSHEThe focus of the circle time sessions is about nature and the environment.
The children will also begin to think about change and how we can deal with change in preparation for transition to year 2. |
MathsThe following objectives will be taught in maths lessons, each objective will include problem solving.
-number bonds of 20 and using knowledge to subtract and solve problems -understanding tens and units to support addition and subtraction -weighing in grams -adding money amounts and working out change. PhonicsIn June the children will have the Year 1 Phonic Screening check.
We are preparing the children for this during the summer term by revising all the phonic sounds we have learnt this year. They will also be practising reading 'alien' words which they are required to do in the check. |
Science
This term the children have a topic of 'A festival of flowers.' They will planting beans and seeds in order to watch how plants grow and conduct experiments.
Physical EducationFor Summer term PE will mostly be outdoors.
The children will being with catching, batting and fielding skills and learning to play team games such as rounders. The children will then practise balls skills in football, basketball and hockey lessons which also includes team games to develop understanding of team work and tactics. Art & DTArt and D&T activities are used to support all areas of teaching and learning.
The children will be developing their construction and science skills by designing and building model aircraft and paper planes. |
ComputingThe children will have continuous access to iPads to support all curriculum learning.
This half term the children will continue to use ICT to support all areas of learning. The focused teaching will be understanding algorithms and debugging. The children will also continue to have e-safety lessons. MusicThe children are continuing their music lessons with Mr Russell throughout the summer term where they are learning the recorder and other tuned instruments.
In class we will continue to explore rhythm and tempo and using untuned instruments to create pieces of music. |
